I am often asked whether I believe in specific divination tools or whether I engage in the use of psychic readings to predict the future.
While I try to make it a daily discipline to live in the present moment and not to dwell on either the past or predict or worry about the future and I try mostly to perfect the skill that allows me to listen and trust my intuition, there are most definitely times when I use a tool to help confirm what I already believe.
These days having become older and wiser I absolutely know when something is not in sync with my highest good. I get a deep and sickly feeling in my stomach that yells to be heard. There is however most definitely times when it is very helpful to use a tool or speak to a person who can help confirm what you already know in your heart to be the best decision to make but your mind is convincing you otherwise. At these times I turn to various tried and true divination tools, pull a reading and use its meaning to explain something that has already occurred or to help make a decision about what to do in the future.
When they were young I encouraged both my children to become aware of their intuitive knowing. You know when you hear a voice that suddenly suggests that you cross the street, or to call a certain person? If we were in the super market I would ask them to exercise their intuitive skill by picking the best melon or choosing the right cereal. "Listen to your gut", is still a very common phrase used in our house when asked what to do!
Every person has a different way of hearing exactly what they know to be right and true in their heart, especially when their mind gets in the way and adds confusion. It is my recommendation that you always follow your heart and when a decision is simple like picking a fruit it is easy to trust your intuition but as choices become more life threatening we tend to lose faith in the knowing that we are all absolutely gifted with and we let our minds interfere. Practice and proof is the key to achieving intuitive success but when seriously in doubt there is nothing more gratifying that a honed deck of tarot cards, a well used pendulum or a trusted and kind psychic friend to help you make up your mind.
Perhaps you may decide to explore a tool for yourself. When you choose your divination tool make it a fun and personal quest to find a set that speaks to you. Over the years I have enjoyed Aboukra, a quartz crystal pendulum, the Mother Peace Tarot deck which is round and especially geared towards women, the Waite Deck which is a more traditional version telling the story of the Druid fool on his journey to enlightenment, the more modern Connolly deck, the Fairytale Deck which uses familiar Hans Christian Anderson characters to relay the story and my old favorite Animal Cards which speak to me through native American animal lore.
Ritual is the key to making any divination experience special. My girlfriend Paula, awakes every day, pours her coffee and takes a few minutes to pick a card which she uses to set the meaning for her day and at the beginning of every New Year we insist that all of us pick a card to establish our individual blessing for the year.
As far as using psychics, I have my close and favorite few: Whitney who reads for me with long term projection, beautiful imagery and story, Yvonne who has been able to help me when I have a quick, short term question and Tom who reads astrology and helps me to better understand a particular trend of time, overcome an obstacle or make the most of and enjoy a certain blessing.
Today I thought it would be nice to pick a tarot card for all of us. I will shuffle my cards and ask specifically for a message that is meaningful to my lighterliving ™ community.
Here we go! As I began to shuffle, the King of Wands fell out! I especially like it when a surprise card makes an appearance. He stands for a mature, successful business man who is strong and generous, witty and smart. He suggests that negotiation, agreements and business decisions will need to be made, that lead to success. The main card I picked is delightfully the Nine of Cups. This is traditionally known as the wish card and as the reader I should ask each of you to make a wish which you can be sure will be granted. This card suggests a joyful future for all of us and a time for celebration.
I would love to hear from all of you about the different ways in which you use divination tools or tell me a story about how listening to your intuition, even when your mind said not to and how it made a significant change in your life. You may also share your story with our lighterliving ™ readers through our Story of Change submission.
