I love what I do. At age 40 I read Deepak Chopra's book in which he states that the greatest gift that a parent can give a child is to help them understand what makes them unique! Alas my parents had never aided me in that quest.
I was living in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the time: the land of enchantment and spirituality! I had heard of a wonderful astrologer who seemed to specialize in explaining one's uniqueness. I sat with him for an hour as he acted out my chart, placing beautiful little statues in a circle to define who I was.
It was truly enlightening. His very clear description of my 3 very unique traits made perfect sense. "You are a teacher, a facilitator and a healer", he said. And the moment you can find work that involves the balance of these three traits will be the moment that you will truly know why you are here on this planet.
Is it a coincidence that my first profession was as a high school math, biology and science teacher and that 10 years later I was a television producer, and that I have always lived an alternative life with deep interest in spirituality and healing????
Today I know exactly why I am here. I get to be me, every single second of my life. I teach and educate the world about Pilates. I profess and live an alternative life filled with healing and changing peoples' lives all over the world.
When you are young and making decisions, it is impossible to know where life will take you, but I do believe that if every decision you make involves discovering the "authentic you", you will surely find that every turn and bend in the road leads you to exactly where and who you need to be. Oh, and every day make sure that your children and loved ones know how special and unique they are.
