HRT and Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers, affecting up to one in eight women during their lives in Europe, the UK and USA.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention more than 191k women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and 40k die.

Apart from stress and diet, the Women's Health Initiative and the Million Women Study have shown that synthetic sex hormones called progestins used in hormone replacement therapy, HRT, and in contraceptives may increase the risk of breast cancers.

We recognize that there are 2 ways to approach the changes that come with aging. Either you take control of your life, change your diet, find a way to relax and add some healthy movement and/or you decide that HRT, whether bio-identical or not is the way to prolong the youthfulness that comes with maintaining your hormone levels. ¹

At lighterliving we respect every woman’s decision however personally I believe that menopause is a time for celebration as we transition through a very natural process, from the ability to procreate and make babies to becoming an elegant and older woman whose body needs to be protected from the taxing burden that reproduction brings with it.

In order to prevent breast cancer naturally there are some medically recommended guidelines:

  • Add Antioxidants to your daily diet. Berries and Pomegranates contain phenolic compounds that inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
  • Regulate your blood sugar and restore your sensitivity to insulin by ingesting less simple carbohydrates, eating more protein on a regular basis and exercising moderately.
  • Take 1000mg of Vitamin D a day or get 15 minutes of unprotected exposure to the sun.
  • Make sure that your Melatonin levels are normal through out the night as it is a powerful breast cancer cell growth inhibitor.
  • Keep your HDL (good cholesterol) levels high and LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglyceride levels low.
  • Regular screening is important but I am a proponent of thermography as a regular screening tool to prevent unnecessary exposure of delicate breast tissue to radiation.
