Pick a card to focus your thoughts, uplift your spirit and calm your body
Every day for many years I have taken a few minutes to pick a card from one of my many decks. I read the message and take it to heart, trusting that everything that happens to me that day may be understood differently when the message is applied.

QVC recently asked me to create a 'Gift from LighterLiving'.

A couple of days of meditative thought and it became clear what that gift box should include. Obviously it must contain unique and personal treasures that would enhance peace of mind, heal and nurture your body and uplift your mood and spirit.

Marjolein's Rules for Lighter Living
There is a question I ask myself often when faced with a choice: Is what I am about to do, say or think going to add peace and harmony to my life or will it create conflict and pain? It doesn't take much imagination to guess which direction I tend to take.

Utilize the energy of the Moon to ease the burden of living
Kabbalah teaches that it is during times of waning Moons that you work on eliminating unwanted energy, during a New Moon you focus on drawing positive energy towards you that you can manifest while the Moon is Waxing.

It is in using the energy of the Moon that you are able to utilize one of the many universal laws to add ease and satisfaction to your life. Even the Witches of Salem believed that their spells were much more powerful when performed with "moon energy".

Great Advice
This is the most beautiful advice I have ever received in an email .....

An Angel says, 'Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.'

Marjolein's Guided Meditation
For so many years I have used guided visualization and meditation as a way to get out of my head and into a more heartfelt and intuitive place. There is nothing more relaxing than listening to a soothing voice take you to an unfamiliar and beautiful place where you get to use your imagination and conjure up smells, sights, sounds and feelings that you normally believe are only possible in your dreams. Some guided meditations lead you to ask questions  which you have been loathe to answer but suddenly because you are more connected with your intuitive side, you quickly hear a perfect solution.

In our family we use the ease of guided visualization to go to sleep at night and both of my children, Louis and Sky, have been taught to visit their very special "place in nature" when ever they need a reprieve from  their environment or when they need to release stress, fears, worries and concerns and especially when they are having trouble going to sleep.

Meditation is far better than Medication
Meditation is an ancient practice by which a person focuses on a single thought to quiet the mind of all other thoughts, images and sensations. The purpose of this very healing discipline is to  learn how to be still; in the present moment, in the “here and now”; letting go of all mental, physical and emotional analysis. Depending on the philosophy of the practice you choose, you will achieve this altered state of calmness in different ways. For years I thought that “meditating” meant sitting in the lotus position on the floor and chanting! I have since learned that it does not have to feel so unfamiliar, awkward or difficult.

Success is a mystery
I am always fascinated by what makes one person more successful than another. Even in the same family where siblings are raised with the identical philosophical parenting, some are more successful than others. Yesterday I sat on the plane, next to a delightful woman who spoke about her twin girls. Both went to the same school and yet she was worried about the one who had no motivation, lacked self esteem and seemed afraid to try. The other twin was outgoing, confident and on her way to becoming a successful adult. It must be a mysterious combination of genetics, intelligence, environment, experience and influence but as a parent how do we give our children the maximum amount of opportunity for complete self actualization when we are unsure what it is, even for ourselves?

Does a positive thought change the outcome of an event?

You may have read that my Tom has been diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

When I first heard the diagnosis I was incredulously shocked, in denial and full of disbelief.

How is it possible when he looks so well, that he can actually have cancer of his immune system? Wouldn’t he be feeling sick or getting sick all the time?

What do we do when our heart says yes but our mind says no?

I am often asked whether I believe in specific divination tools or whether I engage in the use of psychic readings to predict the future.

While I try to make it a daily discipline to live in the present moment and not to dwell on either the past or predict or worry about the future and I try mostly to perfect the skill that allows me to listen and trust my intuition, there are most definitely times when I use a tool to help confirm what I already believe.

Nine of the most misunderstood words uttered by women to men....

I promise this year to better communicate with Tom, Louis, my male business partners and all my male friends! Have a laugh as you remind yourself of how easily we can be misunderstood. Perhaps John Gray is right and we are from different planets.

From the mouths of men all over the planet here are 9 of the most misunderstood words uttered by women to men....

(1) "Fine":

This is the word a woman uses to end an argument when she thinks she is right and you are wrong and she doesn't want to discuss it any more.

Learning to manifest your desires

It is the beginning of a New Year and I am excited.

Every New Year’s Eve I spend an hour or so preparing for the next year. I write down, in my journal, all the things that I want to accomplish over the next twelve months. I make certain that I have written these "resolutions" in positive language and always in the present tense. I spend time imagining how I will feel after each accomplishment and reinforce its occurrence with the belief that it already IS.

Looking at Life through the Teachings of The Tao

I was at QVC recently while Wayne Dyer was speaking and as always I became mesmerized by his wonderfully delightful stories. I, of course, bought the book and CD’s he was selling and have since listened to them and others many, many times. He mentioned that Lao Tzu, the original author of The Tao, said that you don’t own your children, they come through you and it is only for you to guide them into becoming the best they can be. My other favorite author Deepak Chopra wrote, "The job of a parent is to make your children understand and appreciate what makes them unique".

Power of Love Faith and Hope
Medical science may well be able to heal certain illnesses and prolong some life but it does not address the state of a person’s mind. It is proven that our bodies literally get sick when fed a diet of negative words, toxic thoughts and nasty emotions.

We know that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Therefore thoughts and words of fear and criticism cause disease, while thoughts of joy and love create health.

A Thing to Remember
The baggy yellow shirt had long sleeves, four extra large pockets, black trim and snaps up the front. It was faded from years of wear, but still in decent shape. I found it in 1973 when I was home from college on Christmas break, rummaging through bags of clothes Mom intended to give away.

Forgiveness, the key to Happiness and Success and Peace of Mind
We have spoken about recognizing our own self-limiting thoughts and replacing them with positive and affirmative ones. We have also discussed how important it is to be grateful and to recognize what is wonderful about our lives instead of focusing on our grievances and problems. Everything that we experience may be perceived as a miracle if we choose to see it that way.
