Vitamin D and Covid 19

Dr. Michael Holick is a professor of medicine and the director of the Vitamin D, Skin and Bone Research Laboratory at the Boston University School of Medicine.

His book, "The UV Advantage", promotes the health benefits of five to ten minutes of sun exposure, two or three times a week with out sun screen.  Darker skin requires more exposure.

We all know the importance of sunlight in the production of Vitamin D3 which is essential for a healthy immune system and strong bones.

Vit D is proven to help prevent common cancers : breast, colon and prostate; Autoimmune diseases, Type 1 Diabetes; Heart disease; Osteoporosis; Hypertension; Multiple sclerosis; Rheumatoid arthritis; Depression; Obesity and more recently, Covid 19.

Further studies have shown symptoms like Aching bones; Muscle discomfort; Inflammation; Fibromyalgia; Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to be due to Vit D deficiency and that 80% of those who contract Covid are deficient. The recommended dose for supplementation is 1000 IU of Vit D3 and that a healthy serum level should range from 50-100 so when you next get your blood work be sure to have your doctor test your 25 OH Vitamin D level.

There is mounting evidence that vitamin D deficiency is common in the U.S.

Foods that contain Vitamin D include oily fish, Shrimp, Cod liver oil and fortified Milk and orange juice.

I have a few friends who were struggling physically; losing hair, feeling fatigued, aching, lacking in energy and found no relief until they began to add Vitamin D to their diet. Get tested and make sure that you consider Vit D deficiency whenever you feel under the weather without cause.
