How Eve's Lunge improves your lower back and SI joint

Eve’s Lunge on a pilates reformer with Marjolein Brugman | Aeropilates

Tight Hip flexors are the bane of 20th century’ over sitting”. When tight they pull the pelvis forward often creating sacroiliac pain.

On the reformer there is a stretch named after Joe Pilates’ protege, Eve Gentry that when done daily quickly remedies this malady.

Place your AeroPilates machine on 2 cords and stand to the left of your foot bar, facing the front. Place your right knee on the platform, foot against the shoulder pad. Place your left foot at the corner of the reformer and bend the knee. With the weight in your standing foot be sure that your hips are level and facing forward. Your thigh is parallel to the floor.

Inhale as you lower your hips to the floor maintaining the straight line across your hips and push the platform back with your right foot until you feel a stretch in the front of your hip joint. Exhale as you breathe into the stretch allowing the tightness to release. Inhale and lift, exhale as you lower your body a little more.

Once fully stretched take the right arm and reach up and away from the reformer in a side bend or simply rotate your shoulders away fro the reformer to enhance the stretch deeper in your hips and psoas, exhaling as you release the tightness. Return to the center and look up at the ceiling to stretch out your full abdominal front.

Come back to the front and carefully straighten the left leg exhaling as you work to stretch the hamstring.

Repeat this and on the other side.
